Spanish class will never be the same! Discover Cuzco, the cultural heart of the Inca Empire, as you immerse yourself in its sights and sounds—ancient flutes, traditional clothes, and surrounding Andean peaks. While you volunteer on various projects to improve the living conditions for residents in an indigenous highland community near the Sacred Valley surrounding Cuzco, practice your Spanish and Quechua with friendly native speakers.

The GLA Experiential Language Curriculum™ integrates Spanish language learning into all aspects of the experience, allowing students to take away more of the culture, and also leave more behind. From community service to excursions and cultural events, language is given a new context. Spanish class will never be the same.

Language Immersion

Your Adventure is Just Around the Corner!

Community Service

In spite of Cuzco city’s success in tourism, many of Cuzco’s rural areas remain impoverished and cut off from governmental resources and assistance. Work on infrastructural projects that improve the quality of life and create new economic opportunities for a Highland Quechua community. Interact with the families you’re serving, and experience locals’ generosity as they help you improve your Spanish and Quechua speaking skills.

Immersive Learning

Take advantage of a unique language immersion curriculum that combines classroom time with practicing Spanish in everyday situations: during service, cultural activities and even on excursions. All levels are welcome, and you’ll be placed with peers at a similar level of speaking and comprehension ability. Improving your Spanish communication skills will deepen your cultural learning experiences – like participating in Andean music workshops, listening to talks about cosmology and meeting farming communities and artisans.

Adventure

Explore the Sacred Valley, which is filled with breathtaking mountain views, traditional Quechua communities, salt flats, colorful Peruvian clothing and ancient sites. Hike the Pisac ruins and take a train to Machu Picchu, the ancient Inca ruins that have mystified and intrigued travelers for decades. Learn to cook traditional Peruvian cuisine and sample the region’s world-class chocolate. The 21-day Flagship program will take an exciting rafting adventure down the steep-walled and scenic river valley and visit Rainbow Mountain, famous for its colorful slopes.

Lodging

Home Base is located in one of the picturesque villages of the Sacred Valley, outside the city of Cuzco. You’ll live in a family atmosphere, surrounded by tall mountains, snow-capped peaks and fields of crops. Students stay in gender-segregated rooms with roommates and have access to shared bathrooms.
